Happiness and Gratitude Increase Your Well Being

Living in happiness and expressing gratitude tend to go hand-in-hand. Makes sense. Did you know that both actually improve your level of well being?

People who express gratitude release feel good chemicals into their bloodstream. That good feeling leads to a healthier immune system and an increased sense of happiness–whatever happiness means to you.

Happiness has a domino effect. People who live in happiness experience better mental as well as physical health. Happy people get colds and flu one third as often as people who are unhappy. Their sense of peace is higher and steadier too. Longevity studies have long shown a correlation between happiness and long life-I mean a healthy long life.

People who suffer illnesses and conditions and express gratitude for the lessons they learn from their situations get well more often then those who don’t. I remember telling my therapist at the rehab center all the good things for which I was grateful following a life-altering brain injury, He told me that the only patients he ever saw heal from brain injuries were those who found the gifts in the injury.

I recently learned that gratitude also leads to success. Makes sense, doesn’t it? When you feel grateful for what you have the Universe gives you more. So when you decide your present job is good place to be while you create something new and different, you actually speed up the new and different job’s arrival.

Success comes in all kinds of disguises. When you see opportunities instead of problems or challenges you give yourself the chance to feel grateful rather than angry over events and situations. You empower yourself to find new paths and reach new heights with gratitude.

Feeling and expressing how grateful you are to have, and also to avoid things in your world, truly defines the gifts of life. Ask and you will receive. Say thank you and you will receive again and again. I do not know of a better path to living in happiness than living with gratitude across your life.
